South Channel Wildlands Property
The South Channel Wildlands Property is owned by Platte River Basin Environments Inc. and is co-managed by Ducks Unlimited. The 244-acre tract is located in Lincoln County Nebraska; 5 miles southwest of Maxwell, Nebraska on the south side of Interstate 80. The property is accessed by our private drive off East Plainview Road. The signed parking area is approximately 1/4 mile north to a wooden bridge. There is no vehicle access beyond that point; walk-in only from there.
The South Channel Wildlands tract has approximately three quarters of a mile of water frontage with full access on either side. The waterway is meandering with many curves and bends and stays crystal clear most of the year. There is also a developed intermittent wetland slough south of the river channel. The property has a good population of wild turkey, whitetail deer, and seasonal migrating waterfowl.
The partnership with Ducks Unlimited and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service worked together on a restoration project to remove numerous invasive red cedar trees, russian olives, and other invasive weed species on the property. The project has greatly improved the habitat for wildlife and has improved the biodiversity of plant communities and water resources.
